Seabed bathymetry and friction modeling in MoorDyn

چکیده

This paper presents the implementation and verification of a seabed bathymetry feature friction to open-source, lumped-mass mooring system dynamics modeler, MoorDyn, which is part National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s aero-hydro-servo-elastic simulation tool, OpenFAST. Variations in slope, as well frictional effects lines moving along seabed, will affect line tensions floating platform consequent response. These new features are especially relevant for modeling systems deep-water coastal areas where depth can change significantly over an entire footprint. The models rectangular grid variable water depths place existing, uniform MoorDyn. force primarily represented Coulombic force, or product kinetic coefficient contact normal with ability differentiate between transverse axial motion node on any grid. capabilities were tested by running MoorDyn OpenFAST simulations variety environmental conditions; resulting fairlead tensions, kinematics verified against equivalent OrcaFlex simulations. results match closely, meaning verified, increase overall fidelity FAST.Farm

Friction Modeling, Identification and Compensation

HIGH-PRECISION tracking requires excellent control of slow motion and positioning. Recent advances have provided dynamic friction models that represent almost all experimentally observed properties of friction. The state space formulation of these new mathematical descriptions has the property that the state derivatives are continuous functions. This enables the application of established theor...

Hybrid Tsunami Modeling Infrastructure: Tsunami Source Data and Bathymetry Editor

The important part of the tsunami science is focused on studying the considerable influence of natural geographical objects, like islands and coast bathymetry, on the tsunami waves. Currently, such investigations are mostly implementing by physical modeling allowing obtaining good results on impacting submarine barriers on tsunami wave propagation but actually very expensive. We are designing a...

Fundamentals of Friction Modeling

INTRODUCTION Friction modeling has been steadily gaining in interest over the last few decades. However, owing to the complexity of the friction phenomenon, no comprehensive, practicable friction model that shows all of the experimentally observed aspects of friction force dynamics in one formulation is available. Most available friction models are, in essence, empirical, that is, based on limi...

Atomistic Modeling of Friction

Friction is a well-known, but poorly understood, phenomenon that affects virtually all aspects of daily life. In some cases, friction is desirable, e.g., high friction in clutches leads to the effective transmission of forces between an automobile’s engine and its wheels, while in other cases friction is a significant drawback, e.g., friction between the piston and cylinder wall decreases the e...

Physical Modeling of Mechanical Friction in Simulink

www.mathworks.com Two approaches are available for modeling mechanical friction: continuous and locking. The method you select depends on the system being modeled and on your simulation goals. This article describes methods for modeling and simulating continuous and hybrid continuous-locking mechanical friction using Simulink, Simscape, SimDriveline, and SimMechanics. Topics covered include: • ...
